Happy New Year! After a much welcomed holiday vacation we returned to school this week. It is funny how a four day week can feel longer than a typical five day week. That, coupled with just trying to get back in the swing of things after a long break made this a challenging week.
In some ways I feel like I lost the some of the momentum I had going into break, which I suppose is understandable. I was really hoping to be further along in the genrefication project. I have about 20% of the fiction collection classified by genre and I made very little progress this week on that front. This process has been a lot harder than I thought it would be. In particular I have been finding the spectrum of Mystery>Suspense>Thriller>Horror to be challenging. And how about Magical Realism? Does that go in the Realistic Fiction or Fantasy section? In the end I have to remind myself that we can always reclassify a book if needed.
I was however able to get the genre labels ordered – we went with Demco’s Retro Classification labels. They have a pretty cool look to them. Those should arrive in the next week – I guess once they get here this process is really going to get moving. It is exciting.
